Reverence and gratitude - what music means to me

Music is a constant companion and by engaging in it's creation, I remember who I am, why I am here, what is true. Grounding in the present moment, music is a compilation of everything that has made me who I am today.

Music is a way to access a deeper truth, a touchstone, embodied prayer. An entry into the deeper current under the daily noise of life.

I cannot hide or be anonymous or disappear, for when I create music it is all of me. Really. Real me. There is no faking it, in that way it is a brave act. But I don't think of it that way, it is an action of love.

Music for me is something that occurs not in the brain thinking mode, it is all on a feeling level.

I create piano music as a tool of communication and convey my imagination without the limitation of spoken word.

When I have set word to music, melody and word connects the meaning to each other for the ear to hear and soak in a message of love, or security, or joy, sorrow, even anger. The emotion is conveyed through sound that adds a deep layer to the meaning.

There is a sense of timelessness when creating music, a connection to this joyful feeling inside which is similar to what I feel at the edge of the ocean. This sense of being part of something so dynamic, infinite; in the act of creation: I absorb, I release.
